When you edit your site, make sure:
You use Chrome version 24 or up, or the latest version of Firefox or Safari.
Cookies and JavaScript are turned on.
If you have not already copied your Google site to your Google Drive, be sure to open the link included in your file before moving forward with this guide.
IMPORTANT: Some designs have additional assets, such as PNG's, or Canva files. Please be sure to make a copy of those assets as well.
NOTE: If you already have a google site - understand that this is NOT a theme. This is a FULL WEBSITE TEMPLATE delivered to your google drive as a full website. You will need to switch your domain to the template or copy the template sections over to your website.
1. In the template guide document, click the link to open the template folder.
2. Once the file opens in Google Drive, right-click on each of the template items and select MAKE A COPY.
Note: If your google site includes a contact form, assets, PNGs, or Images be sure to follow this step as well.
3. To see your new site, go to sites.google.com under recent sites, select the drop-down box that says, "Owned by..." and make sure it's set to Owned By Me. You should see the copy of the new site called, "COPY OF" and the template name.
I recommend making an additional template backup of this website in case you need to start over. Save the instructions guide so that you can always access the latest template updates.
Some things to consider:
Image size matters! Be sure to use the correct image size when switching out photos as too large of an image can slow down your website.
Terms and Conditions Page - This page needs to be filled in with your terms and conditions. If you aren't sure how to complete terms and conditions there are many templates available on the web - or ask your attorney to assist you.
Privacy Policy - This page needs to be filled in with your privacy policy. If you collect client data, such as emails, analytics, and cookies, you should have a privacy policy on your website.
Remember that certain pages are pre-linked. You can remove the link by clicking on the trash can or using the pencil to edit the page.
🡱 As you see here the page is pre linked. You can change the name of the link by clicking on the pencil icon.
🡱 I HIGHLY recommend having branding guidelines in place before moving into your new website. This is becasue branding is a large part of design and without proper branding your site might feel disconnected. I HIGHLY recommend using Baseline to help you craft full brand guidelines with the click of a button.
